Amy Steadman slays a whole family but the Father believes there is more to the story
Amy Steadman, 64, lived in the John S. Moore Homes apartment complex in Mechanicville, New York. Her daughter, Sarah Myers, 44, lived nearby with her four children: Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn.
Sarah had been in a long custody battle with the children’s father, Brady Harmon, who says he had recently won the right to have the children spend the summer with him in Utah.
Police believe that sometime in mid-June, Amy Steadman intentionally poisoned Sarah and the four children using prescription and over-the-counter medications. Investigators say one of the children also suffered a fatal stab wound, though they have not identified which child or explained why.
Police believe Amy then took her own life. A handwritten note, medications, and other evidence found inside the apartment led investigators to conclude it was a murder-suicide.
The bodies were not discovered for several days until neighbors noticed a strong odor and flies coming from the apartment and requested a welfare check. On June 23, officers entered the home and found all six family members dead.
Authorities found no evidence that anyone else was involved. While police have not confirmed a motive, Brady Harmon believes the killings were connected to the upcoming custody transfer. The investigation remains open pending final autopsy and toxicology results.
