Police shoot Tyler Ben

Tyler Jacob Ben, a 29-year-old Colorado Springs resident, was shot and killed by a Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officer on September 3, 2024, during a confrontation at a Walmart on East Platte Avenue. The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office officially ruled in June 2025 that the officer's use of deadly physical force was legally justified.

The Trigger: CSPD officers located an unoccupied stolen white Chevy truck in the parking lot of the Walmart at 3201 East Platte Avenue at roughly 10:30 p.m..The Identification: On-duty officers coordinated with extra-duty officers working security inside the store to monitor the vehicle and identify its occupants. They identified Tyler Ben and an accompanying woman as they moved toward the vehicle.
